Evaluation Question 4
For this exercise I have made a 'fake' Facebook account in which I wanted to create an audience member that would most likely watch our thriller or be the target audience for it.
The age of this audience member is very important but realistically it can range for our thriller is around the age of 19 as it is more about the types of films they usually watch and the interests they usually have. For this Facebook account I created 19 year old boy named Leo Bonsa. This is due to the fact that being 19 and a male means that they stereotypically but also usually enjoy watching films with action or suspense in them, this obviously being one of the many emotions or conventions created in a thriller. The older age also shows that it is more suited for older people, as in our thriller some scenes can be quite violent with lots of built up tension which may not be suitable for any years younger as they wouldn't have access to watch is at a cinema. This character doesn't have a job but does go to school, meaning that the process of raising awareness for the film to teenagers like him means that he will discuss it with others, creating and audience for the film just through the technique of 'word of mouth'.
When creating this account I also listed some of his favourite films or TV shows that he has watched, as this can be useful in showing the characters interests and other films and genre's that our similar to ours. For instance because he watches films such as Taken and programmes such as true detective suggests that he enjoys watching films that contain a lot of tension and that are more deep and serious than a romantic comedy, which are similar films and genre's to our thriller.
I would attract this target audience to our film by advertising it by using traditional and new media, more likely to be new media in this case as the internet always attracts a younger audience because teenagers are on the internet and social media websites more than adults. I would advertise the films on social networking websites like Facebook and twitter and as these are the most popular ones for global awareness. I would also use traditional media for radio interviews with the actors and in magazines as this attracts adults, meaning that there would be a wider and larger target audience for the film.
Generally I have created a male character as I believe that the violence is more interesting towards a male perspective and audience, due to the fact that they are known for enjoying gore, tension, car chases and many other conventions. Where as girls are more likely to enjoy the romance between two main characters and comedy. However I do believe that women would still enjoy our thriller and the plot as it is more suspenseful than action packed and it is more about solving scenarios. In comparison to the film Taken, our thriller has many similarities, this being the case means that our target audience could vary as the film Taken was liked by all genders and all ages.
