The importance of genre
Genres are relevant concepts for the audience as it clearly states the type of film they are going to view. They wouldn't want to view a film that is completely the opposite of what they are interested in. The Genre effects film production companies and institutions as well as they want to be able to know the film that they are representing. This helps distribution for institutions as they then know how to approach advertisement and what market to appeal to. Their main aim is to make money out of the films they are distributing, therefore they want to pick a popular type of film that the audience of this time are enticed by. Genre's help do this as they show what category the most popular film at the moment is categorised under.
