Prelim editing
From this task we used the adobe premier pro software to edit and go through our prelim task to get an end result that is one complete scene of the sketch we were asked to film.
First we learnt how to name our new project which was to press 'new' and we then could write in the title box what we wanted to call it, this helped us save it under a name and make it recognisable. we learnt how to label and make separate folders for some of the angles of the video, as this helped to organise and recognise the bad takes that we weren't going to use in comparison to the good takes that we could edit down and make into something.
To edit down and take certain parts from a scene and angle that we like all we had to do was press 'i' for in and 'o' for out, which marked particular places we wanted to save and then drag down to piece the bits together and make a complete scene.
The main screen on the right would be where the edited down bits or final piece scenes would be played and the other screen on the left would only appear if we were taking certain parts of a scene to edit. Once we had dragged down bits of a scene that we wanted to use to make up the final piece with, we could then overlap them and connect them to run through each other smoothly so that there was no stopping and starting errors.
A rule that we constantly had to follow was to save the document, as the space that this software takes up can sometimes cause frequent pausing or it can just shut down. To do this you could go to file and save or a faster response was just to press 'ctrl' and then 's'.
The final product of this task I think worked well as we used many of the different shots that we had taken. For instance we used over the shoulder shots and a tilt movement at the very beginning of the scene.
We also used a close up of the actors shoes as he walked in as I think this really showed the proxemics between the characters through the use of mise en scene. I also think that the way we edited it made each shot flow well into each other meaning that there was a complete scene for the finished product.
Some aspects of this task that I didn't feel went so well was how and what we picked to go in the scene as I think we both really wanted to include every angle and movement that we shot but some of them just didn't fit well together. We eventually did realise this but because we were under time allowance we probably should have been a bit more efficient.
For the future I think we could be more adventurous and differ from other groups with the title sequence font that appears at the very beginning of the scene, as I think the font is very important with the audiences first reactions to a film as it can clearly show the theme and genre that the media text is trying to portray and capture.
Overall I think that the task was complicated as it was the first time I had used this software but after a while I began to understand it and it became more of a natural habit especially with saving the file. I can take these skills forward to my production group as we will all have the opportunity to edit our thriller sequence. As this was the first time we used this software we were only taught the basic and beginners introduction to editing so more complicated skills will need to be developed for our thriller sequence, as it is going to be a lot more shots to edit down because it needs to be about 2 minutes and I think this will be a difficult task to undergo. I filmed this in preparation for filming my opening sequence as we had to think about the importance of the camera shots, angles and movements, mise en scene, editing, sound, so this was a good task to prepare me for the thriller sequence.
