Genres are formed by certain conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued, so they are constantly changing. An example of this would be a comedy.

Films within a particular genre such as action share similar qualities and conventions.
For instance:
-action films usually include one characters struggle for survival as he or she is the hero in the film, constantly saving others.
- The film will usually have a villain who has the opposite ideologies to the hero, that the audience don't associate with as well as the hero, therefore creating a disagreement.
- There is usually a lot of fight scenes between these            characters with one or the other winning.
